8th of March: Women International Day

“What is the message you want to convey about the role women play today in the fields of economics and science?”

On a day that celebrates equality, we give the floor to the women on our team, who, through their participation at all levels, demonstrate their integral role in the success and ongoing development of our initiatives.
Thank you for everything.

In recent years, women have earned their place—although certainly not without struggle—in the economic sector, both as academics and as representatives of the market and institutions. Especially in our country, the question of whether women have truly secured their position in this field remains debatable, as few hold senior or leadership roles. Wage disparities between men and women still exist, and a lingering doubt persists about their ability to handle demanding responsibilities and balance their multiple roles.
The criteria for any position should not be gender, but the individual as a whole—characteristics, qualities, knowledge, and skills. I believe that by unlocking the potential of women and freeing society from its biases against them, women can achieve an equal standing with men in the economic sector—and beyond.

It is a fact that the position and role of women in the fields of economics and science have significantly evolved in recent years. However, challenges still remain, such as the underrepresentation of women in top and senior management positions. Therefore, it is crucial to cultivate a culture that promotes gender equality and ensures equal opportunities without exclusions, thereby fostering a fairer and more balanced participation of women, not only in the workplace but also in society as a whole.

“In 2024, the economy has become one of the most significant fields of activity for women. Women are now emerging at the forefront, taking on decisive—if not sometimes controversial for their gender—roles that they once could not have even imagined. Women advancing in the economic sector are breaking new ground and becoming role models, not only for their gender but for society as a whole. As a member of an economic organization, I observe that their contribution not only ensures a diversity of ideas and sustainable economic growth but also serves as a means of promoting social justice more broadly.”

“Women are a driving force for progress and development. Their role in the economic sector is of vital importance and is constantly evolving. Their valuable contributions to research, entrepreneurship, and leadership highlight the complexity and diversity of their abilities. By empowering their participation at all levels, we shape an environment of economic growth founded on diversity and equality, promoting fair treatment and ensuring opportunities for all.”

“In today’s world, women play a pivotal role in the economic and scientific sectors. The diversity they bring enhances creativity and innovation. However, they still face challenges on their path, such as a lack of recognition and representation. By acknowledging their contributions and strengthening their presence in positions of power, we create an environment of economic growth that is founded on diversity and equality, promoting fair treatment and ensuring opportunities for all.”

“It is a fact that the position and role of women in the fields of economics and science have evolved significantly in recent years. However, challenges still persist, such as the underrepresentation of women in top and senior management positions, which must be addressed. Therefore, it is of central importance to develop a culture that promotes gender equality and ensures equal opportunities without exclusion. This will encourage a fairer and more balanced participation of women, not only in the workplace but also in society at large.”

“The issue of women’s representation in senior and executive positions within the economic sector remains a subject of intense debate, particularly in light of International Women’s Day. Despite significant efforts made in the global economic arena, the underrepresentation of women in corporate economic leadership remains strong, with serious implications for the effectiveness of corporate governance and the advancement of corporate processes. The head of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, underscores the need for equal representation, stating, ‘It is not just a matter of justice but of long-term global prosperity.'”

“In stark contrast to the rapid developments in many fields, progress regarding the role of women in the economic sector remains slow. Specifically, representation in this field falls short of expectations, while improvements in their position are both slow and uneven. According to a WEF report, it will take another 131 years to achieve gender equality. Let us hope that Greece follows in the footsteps of Iceland, which leads the way in gender equality, according to the WEF.”
