Findings of the ECB Simulation Conference

The ECB Simulation Conference for university students has been held annually in Athens since 2017, training more than 1,000 participants to date. Its attendees are university students and graduates—of all levels—primarily with backgrounds in economics, law, and international relations. The Conference aims to educate participants on contemporary economic issues within the Euro Area by employing an interdisciplinary and experiential learning approach.

During the Simulation, participants act as central bankers representing the Eurozone and European Union member states in the (simulated) ECB’s General Council. Each country is represented by two participants, typically with different academic backgrounds. The main goal for participants is to finalize the Agenda through negotiations and amendments to its initial draft, which is prepared by the scientific team of Get Involved.

Since 2020, Get Involved has committed to publishing the findings of each Conference, fostering dialogue among institutions, the market, academia, and youth.

The 8th ECB Simulation Conference hosted 140 young participants, primarily undergraduate students with backgrounds in economics, law, and international relations. The main sessions were held from November 22 to November 25, 2024.

The topics discussed at the 8th ECB Simulation Conference included:

  • Monetary Policy: Interaction with fiscal policy, fragmentation risk, and effectiveness challenges in the permacrisis environment.
  • Climate Change and the Transformation of the Financial System: ESG considerations.
  • The Digital Euro: Implications for the payments landscape and financial stability.
