Get Informed: ECB Simulation Conference
The ECB Simulation Conference for university students is open to university students of all academic levels, as well as recent graduates. Even if you are not studying Economics, Law, or International and European Studies, do not hesitate to apply. Through the pre-conference preparation process and the educational material provided, you will receive the knowledge you need to participate effectively.
If you attend at least 80% of the conference processes, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance. This certificate confirms your successful participation in the conference’s main activities, such as the Training Day and the committee sessions. It is available in a format that can be added to social media platforms such as LinkedIn.
The Certificate of Knowledge confirms that, through your participation in the conference, you have acquired specialised knowledge. It is optional and is also available in a format that can be added to social media platforms such as LinkedIn.
Once your participation is confirmed, you will receive detailed preparatory material, such as the Study Guide and the Economic Definition Index. These resources are designed to support your understanding of the conference topics, regardless of your academic background.
Double Delegation means that each country is represented in every committee by two participants. This strengthens interdisciplinarity and collaboration, as individuals from different academic backgrounds are invited to jointly represent the interests of the country they have been assigned to represent.
Each year, the conference topics are adapted to reflect current developments in the Eurozone economy. The Conference aims to highlight and explore timely and important issues affecting the ECB and the Eurozone economy. Topics discussed in past editions have included, among others, the monetary policy transmission mechanism, ESG issues in the financial sector, and the digital euro.
The Training Day is the first day of the conference’s main proceedings and follows a different format from the rest of the Conference. More specifically, it is structured as a seminar, featuring distinguished speakers from institutions, the market, and academia, who share their expertise and experience with participants on the topics of each year’s conference.
Get Involved’s goal is for the Conference to be both an enjoyable and a rewarding experience for participants, while also offering them substantial benefits. Participants gain knowledge on key economic issues concerning the Eurozone, while also having the opportunity to network with distinguished academics, market professionals, institutional representatives, and other engaged students.
The structure of the Conference allows the participation of a specific number of individuals to ensure the best possible experience for everyone involved. More specifically, each conference can host up to 108 participants as delegates and up to 15 members of the Staff team. For this reason, applications are evaluated carefully, with particular emphasis placed on each applicant’s motivation for taking part in the conference.
It is important to stress that we encourage everyone to apply, as the only certain way not to be accepted is not to try.
There are no age restrictions for participation in the conference. The ECB Simulation Conference for university students is intended for students at all levels of study and recent graduates. As long as these criteria are met, there are no further restrictions on participation.
The ECB Simulation Conference is based on the responsibilities of the Governing Council in terms of the topics examined and on those of the General Council in terms of the structure of the committees.
To ensure the best possible conference experience, participants are divided into two parallel Committees covering the same topics. The Organising Team is responsible for the composition of the committees.
All 27 Member States of the European Union are represented in each Committee. Each country is represented through a Double Delegation, meaning by two participants who jointly and equally assume the role of Central Banker and work together to shape their country’s position.
The Presidium and the Executive Board support the workings of the committees. The Presidium ensures the smooth conduct of the sessions and compliance with the Rules of Procedure, while the Executive Board helps safeguard the quality and soundness of the dialogue within each committee.
To support participants in preparing effectively, the Get Involved team develops dedicated preparatory materials for each Conference, to meaningfully support every delegate, regardless of their academic background. At the same time, participants are able to contact our team throughout the Conference process, so they can resolve questions and receive the guidance they need.
The preparatory material includes:
It is the core preparatory document for the Conference, as it provides analysis and explanations of the topics that will be discussed during the committee sessions. To support participants’ understanding of the material and address any questions, dedicated calls are also held during the pre-conference period.
It is the most important document of the Conference proceedings, as each committee’s discussion is based on it. It includes the proposed articles that delegates are invited to examine, amend, improve, and ultimately vote in favour of or against. To help participants better understand this document as well, supportive guidance calls and Q&A sessions are organised.
This document sets out the rules governing the operation of the committees and their meeting procedures. It defines the rights and responsibilities of the delegates, as well as the role of the organising team. Responsibility for ensuring compliance with these rules lies with the Presidium of each committee.
The Index is a tool designed to help participants understand key economic concepts and take part in the discussion more actively and with greater confidence. It includes 164 economic definitions and terms, organised into 10 thematic sections.
The ECB Simulation Conference for university students is committed to continuously enhancing the participant experience by combining education, meaningful engagement, and networking. Its main objectives are the following:
The educational material, pre-conference calls, presentations by distinguished guest speakers during the Training Day, and interactive committee sessions come together to create a comprehensive and meaningful learning experience.
With the aim of enabling equal participation for all, systematic pre-conference support is provided by Get Involved’s team. Through preparatory materials, pre-conference calls, and continuous communication with the Organising Team, participants receive meaningful support regardless of their field of study.
The Conference brings together leading institutional professionals, market representatives, and members of academia, offering diverse and well-grounded perspectives that enrich the overall dialogue.
Participants come from different academic backgrounds and regions across Greece, forming a dynamic network of peers with shared interests. At the same time, the Conference connects them with representatives of institutions, businesses, and academia through talks, workshops, and the overall conference experience.
As part of its effort to promote a two-way dialogue between institutions, the market, academia, and the youth, Get Involved consistently discloses the key outcomes of delegates’ discussions, as well as summaries of the presentations delivered during the Training Day.
Since 2020, through Get Discussions, we have constantly communicated the views, concerns, and ideas of the youth that emerge through the ECB Simulation Conference for university students, helping extend the dialogue and its conclusions to a wider audience.
At the same time, since 2021, we have published summaries of the key takeaways from the Training Day presentations, with the aim of transferring the knowledge and experience of invited speakers to even more young people and making the Conference topics more understandable and accessible.
The ECB Simulation Conference for university students, recognising the importance of formally acknowledging the experience, skills, and knowledge gained by participants, has established two distinct certificates that delegates may obtain.
Certificate of Participation:
The Certificate of Participation confirms that the participant has attended at least 80% of the Conference proceedings, including the Training Day and the committee sessions.
Certificate of Knowledge:
The Certificate of Knowledge confirms the knowledge acquired by the participant through their involvement in the Conference. To obtain it, participants must first have received the Certificate of Participation and must then successfully complete a short online multiple-choice test.
Both certificates are available to all participants, regardless of their role in the Conference, whether as Central Bankers or as members of the Staff team.
During the ECB Simulation Conference, a strict Dress Code is followed, and international standard business attire should be used. The participants dressing should keep up with the serious effort they are making, and also follow the high-ranking guests participating in the Conference. Specifically:
- For men, it is Business Casual is recommended, with the suit being the best option,
- For women, suit and Business Casual attire are also recommended; other options that follow this logic are of course, acceptable (for both men and women).
