Financial Literacy in Europe: Understanding the youth perspectives in Greece

On March 20, 2025, Get Involved held a roundtable discussion with university students and recent graduates as part of Global Money Week 2025, focusing on the theme ‘Financial Literacy in Europe: Understanding the Youth Perspectives in Greece‘. The event, hosted at the European Parliament’s Office in Greece, examined the perceptions and practices of the younger generation regarding financial management. It was supported by the Hellenic Bank Association and formed part of the official program of the Bank of Greece.

During the discussion, participants highlighted the key challenges they face in their daily financial lives, focusing on Gen Z’s perceptions of financial management and the importance of education in this area. The role of European institutions and the euro in shaping a common financial culture across Europe was also examined.

The topics discussed included:

  • Gen Z’s perceptions of personal finance management.
  • The contribution of education to financial literacy.
  • The role of the euro and European institutions in a common economic culture.
  • The impact of social media on shaping young people’s financial behavior.

The discussion concluded with the recognition of the need to strengthen young people’s trust in traditional financial institutions and to leverage social media to promote financial knowledge. It was emphasized that education and financial confidence are crucial elements for developing healthy financial habits.
