Speech by Dimitris Malliaropoulos, Chief Economist and Director of Research at the Bank of Greece – Get Involved

Speech by Dimitris Malliaropoulos, Chief Economist and Director of Research at the Bank of Greece

Speech by Dimitris Malliaropoulos, Chief Economist and Director of Research at the Bank of Greece, at the ‘GetInvolved’ conference, titled: ‘The Decline in Global Interest Rates and the ‘New Normal’ in Monetary Policy’.

In his address, Mr. Malliaropoulos, who honors the Conference with his presence for the second consecutive year, concludes: ‘In summary, the toolkit of central banks is likely to expand in times of recession and financial market turmoil, as opposed to a static view of the economy and markets. Just as in 2008, when no one could foresee the magnitude of monetary policy easing, it is similarly difficult today to reliably estimate the room for central bank intervention in the event of another global economic downturn.’
