Detail information on the roles and participation costs:

Central Banker: This is the main role of the Conference where the participant is actively participating in the activities to finalize the presented Agenda and cooperates to shape the final results of the Conference. As Central Banker, the participant takes part in the debates of the committees, negotiates with the other participants, submits proposals, and votes on proposals to change the presented Agenda.

Staff: This role is a supporting role to the Organizing Team of the Conference, and is vital to guarantee that is conducted efficiently. Some of the main responsibilities of the Staff Members are a contribution to the effective communication between the committees, maintaining the Conference lists, and the organization of breaks between sessions. The Organizing Team is cooperating directly with the Staff Members, guaranteeing that in no way the Staffs are working on their own.

To participate in the ECB Simulation Conference the applicants have to follow a specific process due to the limited availability. The following four stages have been developed:

Step 1: Application

Take the first step to join the European Central Bank Simulation Conference for university students!
Fill out the short application form with a few personal and academic details — and most importantly, tell us why you want to participate.

💡 Tip: Your answer to “Why do you want to participate?” is the most important selection criterion. Take your time and think about what really motivates you!

Step 2: Application Review

Once the application period ends, the Conference Organizing Team will review all submissions. You’ll receive an email with the outcome of your application once the process is complete.

🔎 Possible outcomes:

  • Central Banker: You will represent an EU member state and actively participate in discussions and negotiations on key issues of the European economy.
  • Staff Member: You’ll support the smooth running of the Conference and work closely with the Organizing Team.
  • Waitlist: If spots are full, you may be placed on the waitlist. If a spot opens up, you’ll have the opportunity to join.
  • Not Selected: Due to limited capacity and a high number of applications, some applicants will not be selected.

📩 Important: You’ll receive an update regardless of the result. If you don’t see an email, please check your spam folder or contact us directly!

Step 3: Confirmation

If you’re selected as a Central Banker or Staff Member, you’ll receive an email with the next steps to confirm your participation.

📅 You’ll have up to 5 business days to complete the confirmation by paying the participation fee.

⚠️ Note: If you don’t confirm within the deadline, your spot will be offered to someone on the waitlist.

Step 4: Committees & Conference Materials

Once most participants have confirmed their attendance, the committees will be finalized and preparation will begin!

📍 At this stage, you will:
• Find out which country you’ll represent,
• Get to know your teammate,
• Receive the first core materials, including:the Study Guide, the Agenda & the Rules & Procedures.

Upon completion of the fourth stage, the Preparation Period for the Conference is officially launched.
