Get Involved contributes to the EESC Opinion on Financial Literacy
Get Involved had the distinct honor of representing the voice of European youth in the drafting of Opinion ECO/677 of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), titled “Financial literacy and education for all Europeans,” which was adopted by an overwhelming majority during the EESC Plenary Session on July 17, 2025.
As part of the implementation of the EU Youth Test, Get Involved—representing the Hellenic National Youth Council—was selected by a coalition of European youth organizations to actively contribute on their behalf throughout the opinion-shaping process. Our contribution was officially recognized, as noted on the EESC website:
“The EESC Youth Test was applied to this opinion. Get Involved was chosen by a group of interested youth organisations to represent all of them during the opinion-making process.”
Our intervention focused on three key priorities:
- Integrating financial education from the earliest stages of the education system;
- The need for targeted policies addressing vulnerable groups of young people, especially those in rural or disadvantaged areas, and those outside the formal education system;
- Recognizing financial literacy as a key enabler of informed decision-making, freedom of choice, and social mobility.
The EESC opinion includes a series of recommendations to EU institutions and Member States, such as:
- Establishing a European Day of Financial Education;
- Developing a regulatory framework for new forms of communication in the financial sector (e.g., “finfluencers”);
- Promoting awareness campaigns to protect citizens from online fraud and financial misinformation.
We are especially proud that what began in 2017 as a grassroots youth initiative to promote financial literacy, has now evolved into active participation in the European institutional dialogue. This journey proves that when young people are given a platform and the right support, they can meaningfully shape the policies that impact their lives.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported this important effort. We remain committed to our mission: a more informed, inclusive, and participatory Europe.
